Golf Courses In The USA
We will be posting some articles now and again about a selection of golf courses in the USA and around the world. As you can well imagine there are thousands upon thousands golf courses around all parts of the globe. Approximately how many golf holes does that represent?
Any suggestions? If you said about 50,000, then you don’t really follow golf that closely do you. That is not even close. A quarter of a million isn’t even close to be honest. Try looking at a figure in excess of 500,000, say about 576,000 plus. That is a serious amount of golf holes and a serious amount of courses (in excess of 34,000 to hazard a guess).
Of course we won’t be covering all 34K plus golf courses but we will focus on some of the most popular.
To begin with we will take a general look at Golf Courses In The USA.
Who knows, you may want to arrange your next vacation around a golfing break, or vice versa.
For starters, take a look at what Expat Focus have to say on the subject……
It’s thought that golf may have been played in several states along the eastern seaboard soon after the American Revolution but another hundred years would pass before the first organised golf clubs were formed. Scotsman John Reid is generally given credit for introducing golf to America around 1888, when he and several friends laid out a very primitive 3-hole course near his home in Yonkers, New York. In 1895, the year after the United States Golf Association was formed, it’s said that there were 76 golf clubs in the United States, a total that would increase ten-fold within the following three years.
Of course there are so many more golf courses around the world, not least of course the home of golf in Scotland. Keep an eye out for our forthcoming articles on Golf Courses In The USA
